COVID 19 Community Meals Program

Free Lunch Program for Senior Citizens and in Leimert Park and Meals for LA Community Fridges

During the first 6 months of the COVID-19 crisis, Hot & Cool Café launched a meal delivery program that provided free hot nutritious meals to senior citizens (65+) in the Leimert Park community during the COVID‐19 crisis.  Our seniors were and remain most at risk this crisis and it is particularly difficult for them to obtain their essential needs. We provided over 5,000 meals over a 6 month period. We also began hosting a free 24-hour community fridge outside of our Café.

We find ourselves here again with the COVID-19 health orders, and accordingly are re-launching our community lunch program. We need your help to fund lunch meals three days a week to our community. Half the meals will be provided to various LA Community Fridges for distribution to our community in need. Other meals will be delivered to seniors’ doors 3 days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 11am‐1pm. 

We are looking for individuals and organizations to sponsor one or more meals for our Community. Your donation will go to underwrite the cost of meals at $12 per meal on a weekly or monthly basis. If you are unable to make a weekly or monthly commitment, please consider donating any amount to the program.

The cost of each meal covers:
● one nutritious low sodium and low sugar lunch (vegetarian and vegan options available)
● staff to cook and prepare the lunch
● for Seniors, delivery to each recipient’s front door

Since 2018, Hot & Cool has been a cornerstone of Leimert Park Village. It is all at once a healthy food destination, a community center, an artist's venue, a creative space, and anyone can use our bathrooms. Open to all in a time of rapid gentrification, Hot & Cool has committed itself to represent and unify Leimert Park in a time of change. The current climate has given us all pause and we are committed to take leadership in our Community. The way forward for now is through supporting our most vulnerable Leimert Park members – our elders and families in need. We will survive and thrive TOGETHER.
