COVID 19 Mask Production and Distribution in Nepal
Donation protected
The donations raised through this fundraiser will help to produce protective eco-friendly reusable masks and distribute them to schools and marginalized communities to help them survive the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.
As COVID-19 cases continue to grow in Nepal, the government has imposed the law that allows authorities to apprehend anyone who steps out in public without a mask. But many deprived communities in Padariya, Sarlahi, whose yearly family income is less than CAD 250, cannot afford it. Or, buying masks is not in their priority as they struggle every day to find food. The communities require at least 2,000 reusable masks immediately and more in the coming days.
Instead of directly buying masks and distributing them, this project aims to provide skill training to mothers of the Hoste Hainse (HH) school children, who are from so-called "lower caste" communities, severely poor and socially marginalized. This pandemic has further economically marginalized the families as most of them were working as labour workers and lost their income amid COVID-19 nationwide lockdown. And, there is no government welfare system to support them.
Thanks to previous skill development training programs, HH already has 10 tailoring machines. This helps to initiate the training immediately. All they need now is to purchase materials for mask productions and get a trainer for skill development.
Undoubtedly, this is an extremely difficult time for all of us. The pandemic has left many of us in financial distress. But, fortunately, some of us are still lucky enough to be able to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
With your kindness, compassion, and generosity, together, we will help the community save lives, prevent COVID-19 transmission, develop skills, create employment and generate income in Nepal. Thanks in advance for your support in sparing a few dollars and sharing this information to help our children and communities in need.
With love,
Sharmila Ranabhat
