Hello, my name is Bo and this is my story.
In 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer. That year in October they removed my "lady parts" and I ended up with 75 Staples across my middle. Needless to say I was unable to do anything but sit, watch TV and let the healing process begin.
I was so bored I could hardly stand it. I prayed and through a course of events I was given the opportunity to crochet beanies for the homeless. I took the challenge even though at that time I had no idea how to crochet. Thank heaven for YouTube videos.
That year I crocheted 30 beanies. The following year I continued to crochet beanies. In September 2018 (less than a year later), I was in a near fatal car accident; but for the grace of God, I should not have lived.
Up to that point I had crocheted 285 beanies. The car accident put me in the hospital and rehab for the next 7 weeks and I thought I would never be able to crochet again.
I had a broken shoulder that cannot be repaired, a broken wrist and a broken nose. During the rehabilitation time I did find one particular style of beanie that I was able to crochet. It was very painful and difficult in the beginning, but I moved forward to the best of my ability with lots of prayer.
As time marched on I became stronger and was able to complete 300 beanies in 2019 that went directly into the homeless camps to cover the heads of the cold, homeless people.
Last year, in 2020, I was able to crochet 520 beanies. The wonderful thing is that the generosity of the people and the community came together from the beginning and donated all of the yarn that has been used to crochet these beanies.
For this, I am so thankful. Also, I am thankful to God for giving me the strength and ability to continue this work.
As I crochet these beanies I pray over each and every one and ask God to bless the person that will be wearing the beanie. Only God knows their life story and what they truly need.
In every beanie I place a label that says:
YOU are loved by JESUS Covered with PRAYERS.
This year I would like to take it to the next level. I would like to include:
2 pairs of socks
1 warm blanket
1 hand crocheted beanie
This will allow a person to be "COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOES".
I am on a fixed income and not able to fund this myself. This is why I am reaching out to you. Please, partner along with me and do a kind act and keep someone warm whose life, for whatever reason, has taken them to the streets.
The goal for this year is 500 beanies 1,000 pairs of socks and 500 warm blankets.
According to my calculations, for less than $10 a person, we can keep a person completely "COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOES". Don't most of us spend that in one trip to get our favorite cappuccino or frappuccino?
I pray that you will join me as we can together, make it possible for the homeless to be "COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOES" with some much needed warmth this winter!
Thank you in advance for your consideration to donate. May you be richly blessed.
Please feel free to share this story with others.
