Courteneys Fundraising Campaign 2022

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Terri and my mother Vicki is living with Dementia and a resident at Courteneys Dementia Sheltered Housing Home in Milton Keynes, and she has been there now for 4 years. Due to this, I have witnessed the incredible work the staff does taking care of the residents who live in the 32 flats enclosed in the complex.

Courteneys is a council-run care establishment, specializing in Alzheimer's and Dementia. They are not a charity, and because of this and because they are council-run, they are not allowed to actively raise money publicly themselves. They have NO entertainment funding from the council, so therefore the staff relies on generous local companies and residents' families to help with donations for events, parties, or trips out which the staff/carers organise themselves.

They have an old TV, which has been so badly attached to the wall, that we cant get to the back of it to attach cables for when the picture is lost or the remote goes missing, as it often does.

They still use an old DVD and CD player, of which the discs often get lost, and they end up listening to the same old songs every day, day in..day out.

There is no Wifi in the lounge. Something we are working on, but have been requesting since lockdown. As it would have been a massive help through that period. Sadly we are still trying to get this sorted.

The sensory area will also benefit massively from wifi and an update!

Around 21% of the residents have no family or visitors. So this means no one to sort a special birthday celebration, pop in for tea and cake, or be given an Easter Egg or Christmas gift. The staff organise parties for these days themselves, and rely again on family fundraising, as they are not allowed to publicly raise funds themselves.

The staff has recently also established the Friends of Courteneys Committee, made up of staff, residents, and family members, to try and help address the help required and come up with new ideas, and fundraising.

So I decided to try and start my own fundraising page, to help get a new TV, and get the TV fitted properly, if we are successful with getting Wifi, a Firestick, Alexa (voice-controlled TV activation, no more lost remotes), and also to help fund the monthly birthday parties we are going to organise for all residents so no one gets left out in celebrations. A monthly DJ, cakes, and gifts for those whose birthday it is that month. This is going to start in July 2022 on the first Monday of every month.

If you also know anyone in local companies that can supply monthly cakes, sandwiches, party paraphernalia, or gifts for residents each month, that would also be fabulous too. Everything little thing counts and helps make their life more enjoyable.

Please help by donating to this very deserving local sheltered accommodation, whose fundraising efforts often go unheard due to the restrictions they workaround.

**PLEASE NOTE - A few people have said they had to pay a tip to GoFundMe when donating. Please read everything carefully when going through the process of donating, as tipping is a choice. You don't have to agree to pay the tip unless you want to.  ;-)

Every penny will be greatly appreciated!
