Costa Rica OT Service Trip
I have been granted the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica for 10 days in January. On the trip, I will be working with teen moms and their children, as well as other individuals who could benefit from the services that occupational therapists provide. As many people question what occupational therapists do, we do all that we can to improve quality of life and increase independence. Our work is client centered and puts the clients wants and needs before anything else. I am thrilled to see and experience working in a different culture as cultural awareness is a huge part of being client centered. By all means, it is not expected, but the support would mean a lot to me. I have witnessed how developing countries suffer with lack of education and resources that we often take for granted. Going on this service trip means the world to me and I cannot wait to use the knowledge that I have gained the past 3 years to help others who are in need.
