Corrective helmet for Nelson

We recently found out that Nelson has moderate to severe Plagiocephaly and Scaphocephaly. With the Plagiocephaly, his head is misshaped, basically his skull has shifted forward on the right side. This has caused his right eye to be bigger than his left, his right cheek is fuller than his left, and his right ear is lower and closer to his face. The Scaphocephaly is causing his head to be longer than it should. This can all be corrected by wearing a customized cranial helmet that will help his head reshape over an eight to ten week period, due to the severity of his particular situation a second helmet and additional time may be required. His brain will grow and function properly without the correction, but there are other concerns. He wouldn’t be able to wear glasses, he wouldn’t be able to wear any type of sports head gear, he wouldn’t be able to wear a motorcycle helmet, and there’s always the fear of how mean other kids might be to him. Unfortunately, because it is considered cosmetic and not medically necessary, the insurance will not pay for it. At this time, since we just bought a house a couple weeks before we found this out, we don’t have the funds to pay for it ourselves either. We are asking for help from our family and friends to help improve Nelson’s future and we want to reassure everyone that any funds that are not used will be payed forward to another cause.
