Cornerstone Therapy has been created to help people to becomemore independent and hopeful despite the difficulties they face spiritually. It is a sole trader directed by Ellen Langston.. she is a trained counsellor and teacher.
Her life has been spent growing up on farms and as a grazier in the Richmond shire for many years. This gives a strong and grounded basis for her decision to go west as the drought has been ongoing for the best part of six years now. As she has experienced the vagaries oc the weather in the northwest and knows how it can impact both as a grazier and parent, she feels that she is a unique position to understand much of what is being experienced now, including the despair and hopelessness one feels from the continual battling to survive.
To do this I, Ellen Langston, travel to properties, attend community meetings and events, advocate continually to have some of the services return to the west. I have been surprised to see how few they have become - even having a baby means a trip to Townsville or Longreach as one mother I know is doing now. Hospitals are no longer hospitals but multi purposed health centres. The RFDS or Air ambulance take patients to the coast away from family and friend support.
This is what I would like to see changed: the services be returned and effective in the local towns, there is a doctor available to deal with emergencies with a nurse practitioner during the week to provide a break, that a mental health team/person is always somewhere on call, that simple services be returned and reliable and not just when the funds are there.....and you can choose to have your baby in the local hospital again
