Ofalia House , Cornelius Heeney Walk , Saturday May 31st .

Hi ,
My name is Danny leavy and along with Edenderry Historical Society and Rhode Parish Historical Group we are planning three walks on Saturday May 31st linking New York , Edenderry and Rhode .
The goal is to raise funds for Ofalia House , Edenderry Community Nursing Unit .
Ofalia House provides 24-hour residential care and specialized nursing care for individuals who need ongoing medical supervision and support with daily living tasks .
Cornelius Heeney spent at least twenty years of his life in Edenderry working for the Fullard family brewery before emigrating in 1784 . He went on to become very wealthy in the fur business .He would donate vast sums of money to the catholic church , schools and orphanages.
His memorial plaque in Columbus Park , Brooklyn reads .
"Irish Immigrant , American patriot . Exemplary catholic ,pioneer ,philanthropist, statesman .Coming in poverty rising in industry.Still sharing in generosity . Friend of the orphans, widows and poor of Brooklyn."
Heeney was also the founder of The Brooklyn Benoveloent Society which is still in existence today and is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the state on New York.
Our walk on May 31st will continue this great mans legacy while raising funds for Ofalia House .
