Hi everyone,
My name is Corey Meyer and I’m a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 228 in Santa Clarita, CA. I joined Cub Scouts in 2010 when I was in first grade and now I'm a junior in high school and working on the highest honor in Scouts.....the Eagle rank. My final requirement to earn this honored rank is to do an Eagle Service Project. An Eagle service project requires me to do a lot of things like recruit volunteers, acquire materials, and act as the foreman of the project. It is an experience that I know will help me learn skills that I can use in my future. This project will also help me demonstrate my leadership abilities and show my dedication to my community.
For my project, I've decided to give back to my parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This is where I went to grade school, made my sacraments, and attend mass. There is a courtyard on the grounds that has been neglected for years, and because of COVID-19, it's being used more often for baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
My project would be to beautify this area by building a fence around the grass area with gates, removing an old sidewalk and creating a nicer paver stone entryway, building a small storage shed, and adding a fountain.
I need to raise enough funds to purchase all the materials, including vinyl fencing, several gates, a shed, and concrete.. My team will dig holes for the posts and support them with concrete. There will be several gates to get in and out of the area.
We also need to remove this old strip of sidewalk before grading and prepping the area with sand and gravel. Once prepped, my team will create a more decorative entry using paver stones. It'll be tricky because of the uneven concrete.
I also plan for us to build the storage shed so there is a safe and dry place to store the items regularly needed for events. And finally, the last thing to do will be to install a fountain, which will require us to cut through a wall and run an electrical line to power the pump.
Fundraising is part of the experience of doing an Eagle project. I’ve prepared a budget for all the materials I need and it comes out to approximately $1,900. I'm doing various things to raise the money, and I'm hoping you can help by donating through my GoFundMe page. If you are willing and able to donate to my project, I would greatly appreciate it. Any amount would help me complete my project and ultimately help me to earn my Eagle Rank in Scouting.
