Who We Are
The Corazon Clinic started in 2000 with one medical doctor, a notebook, a couple of patients, and a box of first aid supplies and medications. In 2014, we averaged 30 volunteers, and 1,289 patients signed-in. The notebook has turned into patient charts, and the box of first aid supplies has turned to drawers and shelves of donated supplies. Our volunteers range from pre-health profession, to graduate students, to health professionals. Our mission is to provide healthcare services and education to those without access to standard medical services. We strive to increase the quality of life for our patients.
Who We Serve
We are located in downtown San Antonio, TX on the lower level of Travis Park Methodist Church and cater to those in the surrounding area. We serve those that are uninsured, have a low-income, homeless, and veterans. The conditions we see the most and treat are: diabetes, hypertension, acute infection, psychiatric disorders, pain management, scabies and other skin related conditions, acute injury, and cold and flu symptoms.
The Corazon Challenge
We challenge you to donate at least $1.00 or share with a family member or friend. As an all volunteer and donation based clinic, we strive to help those at a disadvantage by treating and educating our patients, all at no cost to them.
Each year, we have been able to make due with the donated supplies and money we’ve received, but due to our increasing recognition, our patient population has been increasing and our supplies decreasing at a faster rate.
By making our goal of $2,000.00 we can continue to help the disadvantaged for 2+ years.
What your gifts will do
All donations will be used to purchase medical and dental supplies, such as ace bandages, crutches, canes, and orthopedic braces, as well as to develop a substantial pharmacy that will help meet our patient’s needs.
Thank you for your support!
It cannot be expressed enough how much we appreciate your help, generosity, and support. No matter how big or small your contribution is we appreciate it, every dollar counts. Because of the donations over the years, we have been able to provide free medical care for those without financial support.
Testimony from a patient/volunteer
"Corazon Clinic has been a Blessing in my life... you could say it saved my life. For the 1st time in my journey I didn't have Health Care experiencing many health issues. After months of trying to get assistance from my community and hearing the same response, sorry we can't help you... I was so discouraged.
Lord have Mercy... but I wouldn't give up. My health continued going down worried of my huge weight lose (100 pounds) I prayed and prayed and told God... I am doing the foot work but the doors just keep closing in my face... and then all of a sudden I remembered about Corazon Ministries (where I use to refer clients back in 2004).
One Sunday morning at 8am depressed and worried! I walked in Corazon Clinic and was received with a Smile and Respect and Welcomed... hearing the words I was trying to hear for months... How can we help you today. What a Blessing that day was.
Now diagnosed with diabetes, given medication, educated, with love and respect. And guess what All For Free, no questions asked. Today I am at 118 pounds. Yes... feeling a lot better.
My story isn't unique many in San Antonio and the United States are faced with the same dilemma No Health Care these volunteers came together and did something about it without the red tape and are making a huge difference in many lives. I am living proof of that.
They need your support to ensure these services continue. All supplies are donated.
I never thought I'd find myself here... hopeful you don't either (without health care) but if you do at least you know where you can go now. Help support Corazon Clinic." -Patty Cranford
Testimonies from Volunteers
· “As a volunteer at the clinic, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with people that I normally would never be able to meet. Many of the patients that we encounter are undergoing emotional struggles that oftentimes are ignored by society. One quickly realizes how fortunate he or she is after volunteering at the clinic. I once had a patient come in with all of his belongings drenched because he was stuck sleeping in the rain. It was in the middle of winter and all he asked for was nothing more than a pair of clean socks to keep is feet warm. I’ve also had patients come in concerned because they noticed red bumps appearing across their skin. After sleeping outside day in and day out, it’s not uncommon to have out patients present with skin infections, like scabies, due to their living arrangements. At the clinic, we try our best to give our patients undivided attention and truly listen to them and their health concerns. It is because of the kindness and generosity of donors that we are able to provide absolutely free preventative care to those who desperately need it.” –Katherine Barrera
· “This has been one of the most personally gratifying volunteer opportunities I have ever had.” - Reina Rojas
· “The experience at the Corazon Clinic is outstanding if one wishes to contribute the most to society. Most of the patients are homeless individuals, some are veterans and many are just individuals without medical insurance. Many of the patients are regulars, coming consistently to be seen. They find comfort in the volunteers who seek to treat their medical symptoms and alleviate their mental stresses.” – Andrea Blixt
· “It’s a great way to learn and experience hands-on medicine and a very useful practice to those students seeking a career in healthcare. It helped me confirm that I wanted to become a doctor; I discovered that I enjoyed interacting with patients and working as a team. It’s an amazing way to give back to the community, especially to the homeless and the impoverished.” –Alejandro Perez
· “The Corazon Clinic has provided medical support for many in need, and provided medical education to students.” – Avital Sless
· “If you want true medical experience, sacrifice the 4 hours and volunteer.” – Nishant Gandhi
· “You won’t regret volunteering here – premed or not, this clinic is definitely my favorite place I’ve ever volunteered at. You get to directly impact who you’re working with and it is very rewarding –Rend
· “Corazon clinic helps treat the neediest population in our community, the homeless and uninsured.” - Amir Zakaria
· “My tie with the Corazon Clinic has been very meaningful. We serve the homeless population while growing our medical knowledge. Our mission is important to a wide variety of patients, so please help us with this mission!” – Lynsey Maciolek
