Over the summer we marked the one year anniversary of the loss of Cora Cheney, friend and classmate of our children.  Some lovely memorials to Cora have come together over the past year, such as naming one of the paths to school after her and the seasonal decorating of that path during the holiday seasons.  As a supplement to these memorials, the idea of a memorial bench has received some support.  The school and the school board have given their full support to this project and Cora’s family have also given the idea their blessing.  (We hope to keep our fundraising activity very low key so the family is not burdened with this part of the process.)

In order to be on school property, the bench must be of metal construction so that it will stand up to our weather.  The total cost of the bench, including construction and installation will be approximately $1700.  At this point we are starting to spread the word in hopes that we can raise the money and make this bench a reality.  If we surpass the $1700 we hope to plant a butterfly bush beside or close to the bench.  

Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone else who you feel might be interested in donating to Cora’s bench. 

We have included a photo of the bench style.  (We will add a dedication plaque and the bench colour may be different.)  A spot on the school grounds has already been marked for the bench and we are very much looking forward to having it dedicated sometime during the school year.
