Hi, my name is Erica, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my best friend Sarah, her husband Samuel, and their daughter Cora Faith. Their sweet baby girl has been bravely fighting a rare and complex heart condition since birth, and I wanted to give friends, family, and kind strangers a way to support them through this difficult journey.

A Note From Sarah:

We want to introduce you to our brave little girl, Cora.

Cora was born with a very rare syndrome called heterotaxy, which means she has no spleen and a variety of complex heart defects. Her case is so unique that doctors call her “one of one.” We found out at our 20-week scan that something was wrong with her heart, and we were transferred to MUSC in Charleston, SC—three hours from home—to receive care at one of the top pediatric cardiology centers in the country.

From the start, we decided we would fight for Cora no matter the outcome. She was born three weeks early via emergency C-section, and although she was taken to the NICU immediately because of her heart, she defied the odds and came home after 8 days.

Her journey has been full of challenges. She has struggled with feeding intolerance, gone into respiratory distress, and undergone multiple surgeries—including a rare heart surgery on June 22nd and a G-tube placement on August 12th. After two long months in the hospital, we’re finally home again, helping Cora grow and get stronger before her next surgeries. She will need two more open-heart surgeries to attempt a full repair and will require lifelong specialized care.

Cora’s condition has meant that I can’t work right now, and Samuel has spent as much time as possible with us at the hospital. Between hospital stays, long drives, and lost income, the financial burden has been overwhelming.
