Cooking For Freedom celebrates the diversity of cultures in Ireland and envisions a future where international protection applicants and refugees have the freedom to participate fully in society with dignity

My dear friend Mavis Ramazani founded Cooking For Freedom 7 years ago with a group of other volunteers. We are passionate about supporting individuals and families seeking international protection in Ireland. Our mission at Cooking For Freedom is to address the food poverty, isolation and lack of community experienced by international protection applicants and refugees living in Government-provided accommodation.

Objectives:

To celebrate diversity and community through food by organising kitchens for international protection applicants and refugees to cook in (most accommodation centres don’t have them) and to fund the ingredients for this cooking.

To create understanding and public awareness regarding the importance of providing international protection applicants with culinary and dietary autonomy.

To gather and share evidence of lived experiences on food poverty, social isolation and impact on wellbeing.

The Challenge: Our 300 members, residing in emergency accommodations, face food poverty and limited access to basic necessities. This jeopardizes their health, dignity, and well-being. They have no access to cooking facilities, and the food they are provided is often not nutritious or culturally appropriate.

How Your Donation will help:

Support 8 - 10 Families to cook nutritious food a week

We do this by providing cooking facilities and ingredients and the opportunity to prepare food together in community. To provide access for people seeking international protection to cook culturally appropriate food for themselves and their families at F2 Centre and Ozanam House Resource centre, including but not limited to transport, ingredients, cooking facilities and training on health, safety and food preparation.

Our Goal:€5000 will enable us to support our members' basic needs and provide essential services for the next 8-10 months.
