Our small coffeehouse has always had a lot of love for community. Over the years we have strived to provide a space of belonging, centred around good food and drink, and heartfelt hospitality. We have done our best to give back, but never felt like we could do enough.
In the wake of COVID-19, the needs of our community have never been so great. We all face new challenges during these unprecedented times, but those who exist at the margins are experiencing profound hardships, as they struggle to make ends meet, and the emergency services and community supports that they have relied upon are overwhelmed by increasing demand and the harsh realities of social distancing. Access to good food, and a supportive community, has never been more important.
That's where we (that includes you!) come in. The Cooking for a Cause campaign was born out of a desire to help those most vulnerable access the food they need AND support small food businesses to keep their doors open—even while they are physically closed. Through a unique collaboration between the Ottawa Community Food Partnership, Food Rescue and Parkdale Food Centre, local food-based businesses, like Arlington Five, will be cooking fresh, healthy and accessible meals to be distributed into the community where they are needed most.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 during this three-month campaign, to help offset the costs of making upwards of 1200 meals a month, at minimum. We're asking for your support to help get us back to work, so that we can help feed the dire need that is right outside our door.
We believe that good food (and good coffee) is a basic human right. We also believe that we are, without a doubt, better together. Together, we can ensure that no one in this city goes without a good meal.
Thank you for your support. Please, be well and take good care. And let's help others to do the same.
