Self-Funded Neighborhood Garden
Donazione protetta
Hi! Kaz here. You might have talked to me or Ryan while we were out working on this plot.
A few short weeks ago, this was just a huge tree stump surrounded by weeds. We waited for the city to remove the stump for two years before taking matters into our own hands. It was difficult to get the stump out entirely with the gas mains right there, but the stump got in the way of planting anything else. So, we paid to have it reduced down to the soil level and built a low raised planter above it. Luckily for me, local resident Ryan works in construction and was happy to partner up on execution!
We couldn't be more pleased with the end result — certainly a huge improvement over what was here before! — and we hope that it becomes a source of beauty and joy for the whole neighborhood. BUT, doing it this way turned out to be very expensive...
Tree stump removal: $1100
Planter materials (corner bricks, lumber, rebar, paving sand and bricks, lining, glue, wood finish, soil): $1500
Flowers: $400
Labor: FREE :)
Although I don't expect to recoup all our costs, many people have been surprised to learn this was a self-funded effort and have offered to chip in. So, we have decided to gratefully accept donations — hopefully enabling us to adopt other plots in the neighborhood in need of some TLC!
