Jane Garrison, a dedicated animal advocate, humanitarian, and environmentalist, has made significant contributions to Palm Springs and beyond over several decades. We're thrilled to announce that Jane Garrison has been awarded a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars!

Jane, a friend to many, is best known locally for her work in 2016 saving Oswit Canyon from impending development. She initiated a grassroots campaign that ultimately halted the project, rezoned the land as an environmentally sensitive area which led to the purchase and protection of the canyon through community fundraising and grants. This commitment to preserving Oswit Canyon paved the way for the establishment of Oswit Land Trust, one of the most impactful and active land trusts in Southern California. Over the course of four years, Oswit Land Trust has acquired seven properties spanning Palm Springs, Coachella Valley, Imperial County, and Hemet, collectively encompassing over 10,000 acres (4,000 of which are in Palm Springs).

We received news on August 28, 2025 that the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars Committee enthusiastically approved Jane Garrison's nomination that we submitted. Before a ceremony date can be scheduled, we need to raise funds for the purchase and installation of a star along with additional funds for the ceremony and reception. We have therefore set a target of $20,000 for this endeavor.

This is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a lifelong advocate and humanitarian who has selflessly volunteered to help protect open space for our residents, wildlife and environment.
