This Easter, April 12, 2020. 8 months pregnant, Audrey Rivera called her mom to ask her to pick up her 2 year old son, because her and her boyfriend, the father of her 2 year old and of her unborn baby, were fighting. Short time later her mother arrived and found Audrey sitting in a chair. Her mom, had rehearsed what she would say on the way over, to convince Audrey to leave with her. So she started with her speech, asking her to come with her and the young boy. She wasn’t moving and when her mother walked to the front of Audrey, she saw a bullet hole in her pregnant daughters face. She wanted Audrey to get up, pleaded with her, for the baby, telling her “come on, you’re pregnant, get up”  Then she remembers not seeing the young 2 year old, he was always at his mom's side.  

The events that happened next went by fast, but took forever to transpire. An Amber Alert was put out for Audrey’s 2 year old son. His father had shot his mother and took him. Audrey was rushed to the hospital, her unborn son was delivered. He was life-flighted to Madera Children's Hospital, not yet even taking a breath on his own, put on life support. Audrey passed away. 

The 2 year old was located and soon, so was his father. The community watched via social media, while this killer went into an hours long standoff with local law enforcement. Until he was killed after shooting at law enforcement. 

     The next three days were met with many prayers for the newborn. Josiah Adrian Rivera passed away. Born April 12 by emergency C-Section, died April 15. Joining his mom. 


Audrey leaves behind three beautiful, smart, funny, talented, and sweet children. 2 girls and a boy.  Her mother, of course has taken on the role, since these three children are now orphaned. Audrey’s mom, whose residence was in a small 1 bedroom apartment, is in need of help. 

Funds will be used to secure adequate housing, furniture such as beds. School accounts will be made to further their education.

Many have offered to help, asking for a Gofundme link, but it has taken a few weeks for Audrey’s mother to evaluate the situation to gather her thoughts into what she and the children will need. She has had to bury her daughter and newborn grandson, comply with DHS to retrieve her two year old grandson who was taken by his father and then into emergency foster care. A very public tragedy left her feeling like she needed to take time to breath.

Audrey’s mom is a strong woman, believes in Heavenly Father and finds peace in knowing that Audrey is holding her son and that families are forever.
