Continue the Legacy of Darren Richie

Our dad was larger than life—and we don’t mean that just because he was 6’4” and regularly had to duck through doorways. He had a presence that left an indelible mark on everyone who met him—from his wife of 34 years, his five daughters, his beloved grandkids, and the thousands of student-athletes and coaches from nearly 40 years of working as a coach or as a hall-of-fame inducted athletic director. We have been flooded with stories that highlight my dad’s character.

He was generous with his time and energy. He solved problems that weren’t his to solve (he always “knew a guy”). He made time for the person in front of him. He was the definition of a servant leader and would often be seen sweeping the gym floor and driving the bus. He opened his home and heart to students and coaches who were far from home (we laughed remembering all of the people who lived with us or joined us for the holidays). And the thing that would matter to him the most—countless people were introduced to Jesus because of his unwavering faith and gracious love.

If you met Darren, you knew that he was the most proud of leading dozens of trips to Costa Rica with teams of student-athletes. Athletes and coaches used their sport as a platform to share the gospel through hosting games, leading clinics for teams and gym classes, and building relationships with kids.

We want to continue Darren’s legacy through creating a foundation in his name that works to support sending student-athletes to serve the world through sports ministry.

We are working on establishing the foundation as a 501-c3. We would love for you to join us in supporting this mission that was so near-and-dear to our dad’s heart.

All of the funds raised through Go Fund Me will go directly toward the foundation. We will share the foundation information once it is officially established.
