I first met Constantin in 2016 when he was homeless in Liverpool.
Since then he has worked in the Wirral, in London, in Ireland and more recently in Greenland. At each step of his employment he has sent money home to his disabled mother and sister, and daughters.
Incredibly, while he was employed Constantin managed to save up £100 which he sent to me to donate to "someone in need", I donated it on his behalf to Southampton Woman's Refuge.
Earlier this year his job in Greenland came to an end (airport construction) and he went on the hunt for his next job. After putting together a CV he applied to several places in the UK and was offered a place at a well-known car manufacturer.
Unfortunately his would-be employers put in place a ridiculous contract, apparently taking advantage of a desperate man so Constantin was advised not to take the job.
And here we find ourselves. Constantin's mother has just suffered another stroke and having spent a long stint in hospital is crippled with bedsores and needs round-the-clock care.
Her apartment (which she shares with her disabled daughter) is entirely unsuitable so, as he is currently unemployed, Constantin has taken out a loan to make necessary changes to the apartment. He is now unable to repay the loan.
This man, whom I have known now for 8 years, is the most hardworking altruistic man I have ever met.
He stayed with us briefly and in the morning we caught him sharing his breakfast with our dogs - this is a man who at the time was sleeping rough in Liverpool, food was scarce and yet he was willing to share it with two dogs whose living conditions were miles better than his own.
Incidentally, at no point has Constantin asked us for money, or anything, for that matter. The only money that has changed hands was the £100 he sent to me, so please don't think that this is somehow a scam.
Please, if you have any spare change, or fancy doing something amazing this Christmas, consider making this guy's life a bit easier, he really deserves it.
