Conscious Contra Costa Seed Funding

Please help Conscious Contra Costa get established so it can build community and organize educational events around the issues of racism, economic inequality, and police brutality.

We are a community organization led by women of color and based in Danville, California, at the suburban fringe of the Bay Area . This organization emerged out of the uprisings concerning the murder of George Floyd and was ultimately established as a local response to the Danville police shootings of Tyrell Wilson (on 3/11/2021) and Laudemer Arboleda (on 11/3/2018). Both of these men were non-white, had histories of mental health and housing struggles, and had never endangered our community. The broader platform of Conscious Contra Costa is being established to support the structural response required to address all the failings that led to the deaths of Tyrell and Laudemer and the continued denial of justice.

Conscious Contra Costa will fill a gap in Danville-based activism, where most organizations working towards racial equity and social justice are connected with a particular school or church, which limits the subset of the community actively involved. We strive to be a bridge between existing organizations as well as stimulate more direct public engagement in local government.

A core component of our mission is compassion in action. Danville has long been regarded as a nice place to live, but we want to help transform it into a place that is truly kind, connected, and aware of the many privileges that exist for people who live here.

As part of our mission, we aim to:

● Exist as a general auspice for activism and education about local instances of injustice within Danville, thereby promoting civic engagement.

● Support and amplify the voices of those who have suffered discrimination and police brutality in our town.

● Provide space for people of color in a white-majority town to share their experiences and lead the way in building racial equity.

● Collaborate and liaise with other county-based organizations around the issues of racial equity, social justice, and police accountability.

This fundraiser will go towards hosting community events (venue, speaker, and promotion), basic administrative costs such as Zoom subscriptions and website maintenance, and mutual aid for the family of Tyrell, should they desire, as well as others in Contra Costa who might require immediate assistance.

We are grateful for all of you who are willing to commit your personal resources to establish this shared platform to promote racial equity, social justice, and community dialogue on difficult subjects.

Thanks for your support and please reach out via Facebook or Instagram to get involved or give feedback. Our website is currently under construction,  but should be up and running in the next month.
