Hi my name is Sara I'm the coach at Hull KR PDRL as a team were hoping to raise £500 towards helping my inspiring son and the England PDRL team to get to Australia to play in the world cup. The Hull KR PDRL team and myself are going to walk from Hull to Hornsea to support the team and the foundation, Funds will be split between Hull KR Foundation
Connor lynes from Hull KR PDRL has been selected to represent the England team.
Here is Connors story Connor started rugby age 4 when he came to live with me, he used rugby as a coping mechanism after the loss of his dad who tragically passed away suddenly when Connor was only 1, Connor was then being brought up by his mum who found it extremely hard to cope and took the wrong path she then gave Connor up hence why he came to me, rugby was his life he was progressing well representing the East of Hull representetive side in 2012 and had hopes of representing his home town club Hull KR. However Connor was hit by a car when he was 8 and required emergency surgery to save his leg, he battled through, had 2 more operations on his leg and extensive physiotherapy and after a year he stepped back on the pitch to play, however again fate dealt him a cruel blow as at the age of 14 Connor was playing in a club game for lambwath lions when he took a heavy tackle and hurt his ribs we brought him off as a precaution and he was monitored the rest of the day showing no signs of what was to come, the following morning Connor was found collapsed, he couldn't communicate, and was very ill he was rushed to hospital where it was discovered he had a blood clot on his brain stem and we were told to prepare for the worst, Connor was rushed into theatre and they managed to remove some of the clot and restore blood flow back to his brain, he was in a coma for 1 week and as a family we prayed for him to wake he did but still couldn't talk or walk, he spent another week in HDU where during this time he suffered another stroke, we was told he would never walk again but he did after 9 weeks in Leeds hospital he walked out, since then he has helped numerous charities and raised awareness of strokes and brain injury in children, he has spoke about his journey in the house of lords and received the Diana Legacy Award for his charity work from prince William, he again met prince William and Kate after he recieving a nomination from the BBC radio 1 inspiration award, prince William and Kate both remembered him and his journey and praised his outstanding bravery, Connor found a route back into rugby through Physical Disabilities Rugby, an adaptation of rugby league developed for people with physical disabilities, Connor started his journey with Wakefield trinity, he then went on to represent Yorkshire and England helping his team to win the very first world cup in 2022 , he then helped set up a PDRL team at his beloved Hull KR and has supported and helped develop players and showing them that no matter what life throws at you, you can do anything you want with hard work and dedication, Connor through his journey has had 3 strokes and a heart attack but never gives up, as a family we have travelled every where to support him in his incredible journey, this year Connor has been chosen again to represent England PDRL for the world cup in Australia in October as a family we are saving hard to be able to accompany him, Connor is also looking for an individual sponsorship to help him get there this sponsorship will assist with travel, accommodation and food for him for 2 weeks.
Connor is a very humble and inspiring young man who's struggles with his disability daily but still strives to help others.
This is just Connors journey the England team is full of inspiring stories just like Connors. This is a dream come true for everyone involved in the pd team so any support I know will be greatly appreciated. In true Connor style he has asked any funds raised to be split between England PDRL and Hull KR Foundation.
