At Lilly, we extend the impact of our work beyond our medicines to better the lives of people. A part of this commitment is evident in our social impact initiative, Connecting Hearts Abroad (CHA). Each year, 150 Lilly employees are given the opportunity to volunteer in communities around the world that lack resources. Alisha Hammary and Erin Edney are both grateful and thrilled to have been chosen as CHA Ambassadors for 2024 on behalf of True North. Erin will be traveling to Tegucigalpa, Honduras from October 19 - November 2, while Alisha’s journey to East & West Panama will take place from November 9 - 23. Through our partnership with Global Brigades, our commitment to service starts well before arriving in our destination countries. We have decided to serve as Team Leads for our respective travel groups, taking part in and conducting various team calls to gain a deeper understanding of the culture and specific needs of the areas where we will be volunteering. We are also learning Spanish to enhance our communication while in country. Our preparation also includes organizing donations to assemble hygiene kits – which will contain items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, and feminine products. We estimate handing out roughly 80-100 kits daily along with other essential supplies, addressing the significant need in these underprivileged areas.
