Comunity Project in Leh, Himalayas

Leh is a small village in the Himalayas which has suffered the severe consequences of rapid climate change within the region. Due to this climate change, the delicate balance that has maintained life in the Himalayas has been disrupted. This has had a huge effect on Leh and has led to poor living conditions as well as poor agriculture. A group of fellow students and I are planning an expedition to the Indian Himalayas in July 2019 and the goal is to climb Everest to a height of just over 6300m (base camp). A critical phase of this expedition will be the voluntary work / community project in Leh. We will work alongside local villagers to build a greenhouse for the local community.
We will mould clay and mud bricks, lay them and build structures from usable and recyclable materials. The cost of materials, sheeting, wood, nails, rope, tools and hire of other equipment where available will be sourced locally at a cost and then contributed to Leh community. Any left over funds will go towards other local community projects and recycling of plastics and back in the UK to a charity close to my heart - Ependymoma research.
The greenhouse will provide a longer term solution to the food shortage problems communities experience and perhaps bring economic benefits in terms of food trade. The funds required for this expedition are nearly all gathered but will need to be finalised before July 2019. I will be documenting a picture board of success as the work is completed.
My goal is to have contributed positively to the build of greenhouses for those less fortunate and donate to a charity. The cost of the build and long term renewable food source can be met more easily through the generosity of whatever you can contribute.
