My name is Olivia Metz and I'm currently a student at Campolindo High School in California. I am raising funds for a compassion initiative to help children who have had life changing amputations as a result of the Gaza-Israel conflict.
According to UNICEF, between 3,000 and 4,000 children in Gaza have had one or more limbs amputated. This area now contains more child amputees per capita than anywhere else in the world. The funds I'm raising will be used to translate, publish and distribute Gemma Keir’s bestselling book, The Abilities in Me: Limb Difference, into Hebrew and Arabic for children who have undergone amputations.
After learning about the injured children in Gaza through the news, I wanted to try and do something to help them. Knowing how powerful books can be, I began researching stories that promote inclusivity, compassion and empowerment. When I read The Abilities in Me: Limb Difference it seemed like a perfect fit for these children who have lost limbs and are facing so many challenges ahead. After not being able to find the book in Arabic or Hebrew, I reached out to the author, Gemma Keir, with the goal of working together to get the book translated.
“When Olivia approached me with the idea of having my book translated into Hebrew and Arabic and printing and distributing copies to the children who have undergone amputations as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, I was eager to help with her beautiful idea,” said Gemma Keir, founder of The Abilities in Me Foundation and author of The Abilities in Me: Limb Difference. “We will be printing the books at cost with no markup for this worthy cause.”
Once the books have been translated and printed, I plan to work only with non-political organizations and medical rehabilitation centers to distribute the books.
This Gofundme will cover the costs of translating, printing and distributing 2,000 paperback books. The funds raised will be sent to The Abilities in Me Foundation so that they can translate, print and ship the books.
Thank you for your support!
