Compassion for a Dedicated Elderly Worker
Donation protected
Last night, Monday 2/24, I was at El Super supermarket. It was already late, cold and windy. I noticed the employee outside gathering the carts and thought to myself, "it's cold out here for that" then I looked closer and realized the employee was a very old man. Outfitted in his Wranglers and gloves, he was focused and doing his work. I went in to the grocery store, got the chips and salsa I'd went for and asked the first employee I saw if could speak with a manager and said it's not to complain and it's nothing negative. She got the manager and after we worked through the language barriers, some Spanglish, some broken English and a young employee translating, I respectfully inquired about the señor's situation and asked if they knew of why he is still working and doing so outside in the cold. Realizing, he could just be working to stay busy and active and also realizing that it's none of my business, I was able to learn more about him..They told me he works several days/nights of the week and he does so to help his family situation, specifically his wife. I didn't prod more. So feeling compelled to help and hopefully make his life a little easier, I am creating this fundraiser. I thought it would be amazing if we can can raise some money to help with their rent, bills, medications, groceries, fuel or maybe just so he can take a few days off and not have to stress. I thank you for reading this, considering donating and sharing with others. Kindness matters and it is contagious. May we all be afflicted by it
