WHAT WE ARE DELIVERING!
Our goal, can the press of a button on your phone save someone’s life before the pulling of a trigger or a mindless act from law enforcement takes someones life?
The commUNITY app simply does this. When you find yourself witnessing police unjustly using excessive force against someone who can’t defend themselves, simply open up commUNITY and start streaming the scene. The commUNITY app will then start streaming the scene in real-time and analyzing what it’s seeing through your phone and feeding it through artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to determine what is wrong or unjustified in the scenario. The app within a matter of 5-10 seconds will determine where the incident is occurring using location services and it will immediately notify the police department's supervisor, superiors, and the city’s mayor or the highest elected officials we can possibly notify.
Those supervisors and superiors can then in real-time see what is happening and unfolding at the scene of the incident and can communicate both through the commUNITY app with the police on speakerphone, no different than how you use FaceTime or live stream on Instagram or Facebook. These supervisors can also communicate through existing communication channels their police force use. The ability to quickly bring in those who oversee and have the authority to tell these police to stop or drastically change the methods in which they are handling the situation will hopefully save lives. We can hold them accountable and influence these cases we keep seeing unfold.
Let's make an impact so we can as humans move forward together and focus on growing together with one another. Even if this is just one part of a bigger solution, we believe a tool like commUNITY can make a positive impact and prevent these incidents in many cases. Everyone agrees that these acts we see filmed are wrong, evil, and should have never happened but it's too late when we are talking about it after the fact. We watch the video and then hours or days later we see public officials and supervisors give some speech about how this should not have happened. We know people in the community are able to film these incidents but there is no way to relay this information and feed it to those superiors who oversee and have the authority to tell these officers what to do as the incident is occurring.
We as humans should be celebrating together the fact we just sent people into space, that we’re working together through a global pandemic, that we are seeing people from all backgrounds and cultures become successful in business, music, sports, and more at a higher rate than any time in human history. Sadly, we are taken back as we continually see “a few bad actors” each year take that opportunity away from people of all backgrounds just because they were given a badge and gun. We can’t afford just a few bad actors, being in a position of power like a police officer requires and demands that you perform flawlessly and uphold the oath to protect others at all costs. When we turn to social media on our phones or the media on our TV’s we find people telling us to fight and divide but NEVER giving us any answers or solutions. That’s because it’s not in their interest for us to work together, for us to find our own solutions, they need us to fight and continually look at their platforms. They cannot provide us the progress we wish to make but we can and are capable of providing the change we want to see. The only way to move forward is for the public to be able to hold police and law enforcement accountable in real-time for all eyes to see. We all have these smart devices in our hands that can do just that with the press of a button. Who knows what the future looks like but so long as there is someone who can show these acts for what they are in real-time, maybe we can save lives and stop this recurring numbness that fills so many people with hate and sadness.

KEVIN'S STORY
In 2015 I had been traveling for work in Davenport FL, just off Highway 17. A group of white supremacists chased me in their pick up truck for about a mile plus until we were back out on the main highway. I flagged down the first officer I could find. I explained to him I had just been a target of a hate crime as I was leaving a work site. This police officer ran my tags first, then continued to ask me where I worked and who was my superior, as if I had done something wrong. I then had to wait on the side of a road until my Manager came to get me and prove that I was indeed employed by them. The bigger picture here was the failed justice system and that nothing was done to the guys who chased me off the road with a shotgun, but I was instead made the target and profiled because I was BLACK. We can no longer sit back and wait for a flawed system to be fair. As a black man in America, I'm a target and as a vocal large in stature black man, I’m an even easier target. We have seen this story play out far too many times in just the recent decade and god only knows how many times before live documentation. If you choose to be silent during these times; you are choosing the side of the oppressor. The Great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once said “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” So I and founder Stephen Dodge at tech company Regulr have teamed up to bring justice to racial and systematic unjust situations with a simple but effective app to help stop these incidents of police misconduct and brutality.
