On October 19, 2022 Houston, Texas based visual artist/community organizer Bria Lauren was unlawfully victimized in a motor vehicle collision by an uninsured driver. The driver provided false insurance information and documentation to the HPD police officer at the scene of the accident and is currently undergoing criminal investigation.

Bria was taken to Memorial Herman by ambulance transport and was immediately rushed into trauma surgery. Her injuries include acute traumatic pain, subarachnoid hematoma, lumbar vertebral fracture, broken ribs, pneumoperitoneum, lactic acidosis, Leukocytosis, Tibia/Fibula fracture, laceration of right hand, broken finger on right hand, decreased functional mobility, and acute posthemorrhagic anemia.

She has undergone three surgeries and is scheduled for additional post-op surgeries in the future. Doctors anticipate a minimum of 8-12 month recovery period for injuries sustained.

The family of Bria Lauren is asking the community for financial help and resources to help aid Bria with her recovery. All monies received will help with medical, legal and additional expenses for Bria's wellness journey.

We offer gratitude in advance for the support & love garnered for Bria. Please keep her lifted in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to heal. If you would like to offer additional resources, gifts, etc. please utilize the GoFundMe platform for all communication inquires.

Bria Lauren (b. 1993) is a Texas native, born and raised in Third Ward, Houston. The south is a sacred and integral part of her work as a visual storyteller, healer, and queer Black woman utilizing ancestral healing as a tool to navigate intersectionality as an act of resistance. Analog photography is a catalyst for Lauren to translate her own unspoken vulnerability, visually and to hold space for marginalized voices to be seen, honored, cared for, and respected. The heartbeat and intention of Lauren’s work intersects race, gender, vulnerability, motherhood, and Black feminism. She travels through time using 35mm, medium format, and motion picture film to bridge social and political gaps within her community – to communicate the true essence of one’s identity and truth without censorship.
