Community Projects in Hilsea for Residents. Spinnaker Abseil
Donation protected
Hello. I am Cllr Emily Strudwick and in 2023 I became a Councillor for the ward of Hilsea in Portsmouth. Over my short time in this role it has been very obvious about the lack of community provisions and community cohesion within the ward. There is no central hub. A lack of free or affordable activities for youth, vulnerable and elderly. No regular sociable events.
Since our Independent Group were elected in 2022 we've tried to fight for a new community centre or space within the ward and albeit progress is happening it is happening at a snails pace.
Whilst we work with the councils administration to do this I would like to raise money for our community so that we can hire spaces, within the ward, and hold free social events, activities and classes for residents within our community to use. We want to launch a regular coffee morning, additional free activities for children, out-reach and support services as well as crafts/arts activities for adults.
With this in mind I am going to face a huge fear and abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in the aim to raise money to go towards launching activities for our community. For every £1 raised I will add another 25p of my own personal money. If we hit the £2000 target this would give us £2500 in total and pay for:-
- A years worth of free Coffee Mornings for residents
- A years worth of out of school activities for the areas children
- A years worth of community outreach programmes for mental health support, debt advice, stop smoking support etc.
- A years worth of monthly activities for adults including arts/crafts/leisure or community clubs.
- 4 Community Cinema events free for families.
This fundraiser is about improving our communities connectivity and reaching the most vulnerable of our society and engaging with them to become more socially inclusive. As well as giving adults, children and families a number of free things to do every month.
