We are Northampton residents who created the “Yes! Picture Main Street” campaign to show our support for the long-planned Picture Main Street project.
We want fellow residents to know that many in our community support this project as it will make downtown safer and more accessible for everyone. Northampton was selected by MassDOT for this safety initiative due to the high accident rate downtown. We're excited about the improvements ahead—including wider sidewalks that meet ADA standards, dedicated bike lanes, shorter crosswalks and twice as many trees.
We hope everyone will make an extra effort to support downtown businesses throughout the various phases of construction. We can all do our part to make this a success for everyone.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is funding this project with a combination of state and federal dollars. By coordinating with this effort, the city will save money by replacing aging sewer and water lines—city-owned infrastructure—during construction.
The Picture Main Street project was shaped by broad community engagement, including public meetings, surveys, and conversations among residents and city bodies such as the Disability Commission, the Urban Forestry Commission, and the City Council—all contributing feedback, letters, and formal resolutions of support.
While not every individual request can be accommodated, several changes were made early on in response to community feedback. Now that the project is nearing groundbreaking after so many years, let’s rally together to support downtown.
This GoFundMe is to cover the cost of 50 yard signs that we'll distribute to Picture Main Street supporters. Ordering in bulk significantly lowers the cost per sign. We very much appreciate any help you may be able to provide.
Yes! Picture Main Street!
