On July 4, 2026, our family experienced the kind of heartbreak that forever changes a life.

Jayla Alise Brown was an innocent bystander whose life was taken by senseless gun violence in Niagara Falls, New York. In a single moment, a daughter was stolen from her mother, a beloved family member was taken from those who loved her, and a beautiful little boy lost the person who loved him most—his mommy.

Jayla's greatest joy was her son, Syaire Raheim Jones, born on September 4, 2025. He is too young to understand why his mother isn't there to hold him, kiss his forehead, celebrate his first birthday, or watch him grow into the young man she dreamed he would become. One day, he will ask about his mother. Our hope is that he will also learn how an entire community came together to surround him with love when he needed it most.

The funeral has come and gone, but the pain has not. Grief does not end when the services are over. It is lived every single day.

Jayla's mother, Carretha Brown, is now carrying the enormous responsibility of helping raise her grandson while grieving the unimaginable loss of her daughter. She is determined to make sure Syaire grows up knowing his mother's love, her strength, and how deeply she cherished him.
