Community Kickstarter Packs to help people leaving hospital

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mike Storey, and I’m raising funds for the North East Enterprise Trust — a community interest company I run in my spare time — to help pilot 50 Community Kickstarter Packs for people leaving local hospitals and care settings who are in crisis.

Too many people leave hospital with no support, no essentials, and no idea where to turn. And when follow‑up care matters most, health professionals can often struggle to reach them — no phone, no address, no digital access. And the result? Missed appointments, delayed recovery, and too many people slipping through the cracks.

So we're creating Community Kickstarter Packs - loaded with practical items, clear information and a small sense of community support and stability at a critical moment in their lives.

What's in a Community Kickstarter Pack

  • Hygiene essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, handwipes, bodywash and shampoo
  • Practical items like a drinks bottle, pen and notepad, gloves, socks and reusable tote bag
  • The Community Kickstarter Guide — a printed document packed with lots of local contact ideas, useful tips, and restart advice
  • Mobile phone or tablet to help overcome digital exclusion, loaded with loads of useful links to useful sources of help and things like the NHS App and other Apps and self help information that will be useful

ONS data shows 5.3 million UK adults were non‑internet users as of 2018, with the highest concentration in the North East.

Up to 12.1% of the population are digitally excluded — and those with the most complex health and care needs are the most affected. This includes people leaving hospital, care, or supported living, who often lack access to devices, data, or digital skills.

Quite often these are people we can't contact easily for their next appointment and follow-up care and in our region, and our Community Kickstarter Packs aims to go some way to help address this.

Where the money goes
  • £50 = one complete pack
  • £500 = 10 people supported
  • Any surplus supports the North East Enterprise Trust's work.

Any surplus funds, or funds not needed to purchase items that are donated will go directly back in to The Trust to support its work and more packs in the future or its further self development, enterprise and community projects and work.

Why I'm doing this
I run The North East Enterprise Trust and often work closely with people in need or at a pivotal crossroads in their lives. This project is about practical help, dignity, and giving people a better starting point when everything can feel overwhelming.

Nobody is paid through the trust; Every single donation raised goes to where it’s needed and every bit of support is given voluntarily.

Since 2013 I’ve raised and donated more than £60,000 and if you can donate, share, or support what we are doing in any way to help — including helping us gather the pack items and putting packs together— it will really make a difference.

Thank you for enabling us to help people help themselves.
