One year deep into the COVID-19 pandemic, and many Indigenous communities continue to adapt + work amidst the uncertain circumstances to keep themselves and their families safe, healthy and provided for without any federal governmental aid.
On behalf of a Wixáritari Family from the Sierra Nevada Occidental region of Jalisco, Mexico, we are raising funds for their continued financial recovery as the pandemic progresses.
The Wixáritari are known as Wixárika or as some may know them by their native dialect, however not their revered name, the 'Huichol' peoples.
Vicky De La Cruz Muñoz-Ramirez and her family have been working diligently with the given circumstances as they rely on their craft work to sustain them while their clients and tourism remain at a minimum. The Wixarika are known for their colorful and intricate wool weavings and fine chakira bead work honoring their life of communion with native plant medicine, Hikuri (Peyote) and their beloved animal kin, such as the deer, Kayumari.
Vicky and her husband, Santos are descended from unbroken lineages as their father's are both beloved Marakames (Guardian Medicine Men) in their community. Their family values keep them united with support for one another, as they live and pilgrimage together,
Their family has reached out for support as Vicky’s 16 year old daughter, Nancy and her husband Enrique gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
Their baby is healthy, however the baby underwent a treatment at their local hospital and are now handling a medical bill they are not resourced to pay, in order for them to return home.
100% of funds will be used to cover their medical expenses + daily living expenses such as food, baby clothing, baby supplies, transportation and other basic needs for their growing family.
With the support of our community, we hope to raise sufficient funds for their current needs.
May you've received the blessing to be in the presence and prayer of the Wixárika, you know how generous they are in their service to humanity and their offerings of Wisdom and Respect for the Earth.
May you be in a place of giving back to the Indigenous, please consider donating to the De La Cruz Muñoz-Ramírez Family.
Gracias! Pamparios! Thank you!
