Community Effort to Restore Voyager Road Gate

Hello Antler Crest Estates Residents,

My name is Ross Scherer, and I live here in our wonderful community at 8931 S. Placita Nobleza. I’m writing to ask for your support in preserving an area that has long been important to Antler Crest residents—the unmaintained county road known as Voyager Road, located along the north side of our subdivision.

For many years, Voyager Road has served as a quiet, natural desert space enjoyed by walkers, runners, and dog owners. Just as importantly, it has functioned as a critical buffer between Antler Crest Estates and the Rocking K master-planned development to our north. This buffer has helped maintain the peaceful character, safety, and security of our neighborhood.

Historically, a ranch gate near the northeast corner of the subdivision limited vehicular access to Voyager Road, allowing entry only for essential utility and government services. Within the past six months, however, that gate was removed by the Rocking K developer for repurposing elsewhere. After contacting both Diamond Ventures and Pima County, it was confirmed that there are no plans to replace it.

Since the gate’s removal, residents have observed a noticeable increase in unauthorized motor vehicle activity, including private vehicles, off-road dirt bikes, and side-by-side/UTV traffic. This activity poses safety concerns and diminishes the peaceful enjoyment of the area for residents who have relied on it for years.

To help restore safety, security, and the character of this shared space, I am organizing a volunteer-led community project to replace the gate. My goal is to ensure that the cost does not fall on any one individual, which is why I have started this GoFundMe campaign and am respectfully asking for the support of fellow Antler Crest residents.

The funds raised will be used exclusively for materials; all labor and transportation will be donated by volunteers. I have completed a site survey and confirmed that the existing posts are in good condition and suitable to support the new gate. All materials will be purchased locally from Tractor Supply on Old Vail Road, and receipts will be retained for one year to ensure full transparency. Any excess funds will be donated to the ReSources Vail Food Bank.

Together, we can take a proactive step to protect our neighborhood, preserve a valued open space, and maintain the quality of life that makes Antler Crest such a great place to live. Thank you for your time, consideration, and support.
