Community Assistance for Flo

So I met this amazing lady today named Flo who needs our help. She was driving on Fairfax Blvd (near Paul VI), when she was caught in a flash flood. She had gone out in the afternoon to grab some groceries from Wegmans when out of now where she was caught by the flash flood. She was stuck in her vehicle and by the time dispatchers were able to get to her, her vehicle was almost 1/2 way under water. She was given a life vest and helped out of the vehicle. I just so happened to be watching NBC4 news with my mom, when I saw her on the news crying to Shomari Stone because she didn't know what she was going to do. I immediately contacted NBC news and told them that I had to get a hold of her and that I needed and wanted to help her.
I made my way out to the McDonalds where I met with Shomari from NBC4, ABC7 and with Flo. I was able to sit down with Flo and understand what had happened during the flood, and how she got into her situation. She has lived here in Northern VA for several years but has come through some hard times in recent years. She has been struggling living in the Northern VA area, being divorced and living on her own. She currently lives in Fairfax, VA.
Flo has no family or friends in the area and therefore has no assistance. She is 74 years old, retired, and barely getting by. Her vehicle was almost to its max, with about 235,000 miles on it. Unfortunately due to funds, Flo can not get a new vehicle nor can she pay the deductible for the car insurance (that is if they are even able to repair it). Her vehicle was towed away due to the extent of the damage and we are awaiting the insurance to see how much it will cost to repair it.
It is our job as a community to come together when we see someone in need and help when we can. This lady is the sweetest person you will ever meet. She was such a joy to sit down and speak with. Let us help her get back on her feet, purchase a new or used vehicle for her to get around in, and help her in her time of need. Thank you very much.
