Like many people in San Diego County, I witness the reality of homelessness every day. Through my volunteering with local nonprofits serving unhoused and low-income individuals, I’ve learned that some of the most basic essentials—clean socks, underwear, and soap—are often the hardest to access.

Clean socks are consistently among the most requested items for people experiencing homelessness. Without them, small issues may quickly escalate into serious health problems. And because used socks cannot be safely redistributed, the need for new, clean pairs is constant.

These realizations led me to start Common Footing—a philanthropy focused on providing new, quality socks to individuals experiencing homelessness, in partnership with trusted San Diego shelters and community organizations.

Common Footing is built on the belief that small, tangible items can make a meaningful difference. A fresh pair of socks may seem simple, but for someone in need, it can provide comfort and restore dignity.

ALL FUNDS raised will be used to purchase new, durable socks in bulk. We will distribute these items through local shelters, outreach programs, and low-income housing communities, and expand efforts over time to reach more individuals across San Diego County.

We are focused on providing durable, quality socks that last. Bought in bulk, high-quality socks will cost approximately $1 per pair. That means:

$5 donation = 5 pairs of socks

$20 donation = 20 pairs of socks

$50 donation = 50 pairs of socks
