Comfort Packages for those Struggling

Hi, my name is Miko Vukovic. Since July of 2018, I have been making comfort packages for those living on the streets of Edmonton, as well as delivering them personally to those individuals. As planned it has evolved to involving the community to help with this endeavor, including some businesses.
The purpose is to connect with individuals struggling with life's burdens, hearing their stories and fighting the stigma and perceptions we place on those struggling. They are not alone and we show that they are not. I get the youth involved with packaging, to get them engaged with the basics of giving back, allowing them to ask questions, contribute, and have fun doing so. I then take adults out to deliver the packages directly. This allows us for one-on-one interactions where we can hear their stories and help them with any tasks they may need (ex. setting up tents, walking with them, etc). The comfort packages are used as a medium to achieve this connection.
Up to date, we have delivered over 700 packages. These packages consists of a food portion (sandwiches, fruit, juice boxes, etc), medical/hygiene portion (bandages, wet wipes, alcohol swabs, feminine hygiene products etc) and clothing portion (socks, ponchos, mitts, etc).
Currently these packages have been funded out of my own money, as well as donations. I would like to make more packages with more items specific to gender, season and need. I would really appreciate some financial support to accomplish this goal.
My goal is to package and deliever at least 1000 packages, to start. Although I find it hard to ask for help like this, the people these packages affect, plus the chance to give them a voice, drives me to do whatever I can to help them. Many individuals I have encountered have had mental wellness or physical health issues, and it is one area I can totally relate with.
Personally delivering the packages gives us the amazing opportunity to better understand the individuals who are struggling. The strength we have seen is unbelievable. We all have our struggles, we all make mistakes, we all have ways we cope . We can help each other up. Even though there are organizations and programs out there to help these individuals and they are doing their best to do so, these packages are to provide them comfort for another day, another day to survive until their circumstances can change through these programs. It allows us to give them hope, that people will come to them to support and be a friend. Also, giving them a chance to be heard and seen as an equal is just as important.
This is a community driven endeavor that I would like to see continually grow all year round.
