We are a group of four seniors at UTRGV, currently enrolled in an internship class that requires us to complete a 10-hour project. While we could have chosen something simple, like organizing a closet or running an activity, our visits to a local nursing healthcare and rehabilitation home opened our eyes to a much deeper need. We noticed that many of the residents rarely receive visitors, and even more heartbreaking, they often lack basic personal items like blankets, lotion, or even their own clothes. It was clear to us that these individuals deserve so much more comfort and care than they currently have.
Our goal is to use the funds we raise to provide each resident with a personal blanket, deodorant, lotion, a set of pajamas, and maybe even a stuffed animal. We believe these small comforts can make a huge difference in their day-to-day lives, giving them a sense of dignity and belonging. We want every resident to feel seen, valued, and cared for, especially since so many of them go without the simple joys we often take for granted.
We hope you’ll join us in making a difference. Most of us are lucky enough to see family and friends every day and return home to our own belongings at night. For these residents, that’s not the reality. Their nightstands are often bare, and the feeling of having something that is truly theirs is rare. Your support can help us bring warmth, comfort, and a little bit of joy to their lives. Please consider donating—every contribution helps us get closer to our goal of making sure no resident is left without the comfort of their own things.
