My name is Ray Lucas, and I’m a combat veteran living in Mobile, Alabama. I survived war, but the battle didn’t end overseas. What followed was a long, painful fight with invisible wounds—mentally, emotionally, and financially. Since returning home, I’ve struggled with PTSD, BPD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, nightmare disorder, flashbacks, and alcohol dependence (in remission). These challenges have been made even heavier by unresolved childhood trauma and years of adult tragedy.
Just when I thought I’d seen it all, I nearly lost my life to necrotizing fasciitis, a severe infection that consumed my left arm, wrist, and shoulder. I spent nearly a month in the hospital without insurance, enduring multiple surgeries while the infection crept dangerously close to my heart. Only two months later, the woman I was with unexpectedly passed away from what medics believed to be an aneurysm. It was the day after my birthday. The grief, trauma, and depression from everything nearly broke me. I slipped hard, and my alcohol dependence flared.
When I felt I had nothing left, God gave me strength, and a woman entered my life whose love has been nothing short of miraculous. With her support and God’s guidance, I’ve been healing. I’ve stayed sober. For the first time in years, I feel hope. I'm helping raise her amazing daughter and rebuilding our family life together. Through this journey, I’ve realized that I’m meant to help others who feel lost, like I once did. I hope to pursue a career in veteran mental health and recovery support, once I’ve fully regained my footing. But before I can help others, I need help getting back on my feet.
This is incredibly hard to say: I need financial support to rebuild my life. I’m not asking for charity—I’ve worked since I was 13. I’m asking for a hand up, not a handout.
Your support will help me:
● Pay off credit cards and loans: 30k abo. (Was 60k, but I let it swallow up all backpay from my VA Claim)
● Repay friends and family who helped during my darkest hours: 8k abo.
● Vehicle repairs so I can get to work, meetings, and appointments: 6k abo.
● Provide a safe, secure life for my fiancée, stepdaughter, and our dog: A God-send and the only reason I'm actually asking.

Your Impact Can Reach Far Beyond Me I’m 39 and rebuilding from the ground up. Your gift will not only change my life, but it will help me build the foundation to serve other veterans and individuals living with mental health issues. If you’ve made it this far—thank you. Whether you donate, share, or send a prayer, your support matters. You are helping save a life today—mine—and helping me prepare to save many more tomorrow.
A Final Word to Anyone Who's Struggling If you’re reading this and feel broken, lost, or hopeless: GOD LOVES YOU. I love you. And you are not alone. We’re out here. And better days can come...
