Embarking on Coltyn's 3rd surgery in the last two months, we have decided to make a GoFundMe as the lack of knowledge of gas assistance until just days ago has cost us over $300 in gas in the month of June alone from hospital trips. Freddy and I are a one-income household because with Coltyn's condition, he is a liability for daycare, and even if he could go to daycare, I would need a job where I can come and go as needed for fracture care. We have hit a hard spot with Coltyn only spending 2 months cast-free since January, and the two months were not even consecutive. This is something very hard and almost embarrassing to ask for, but we don’t have many options left. Anything to help catch us up on bills and maybe even get a little trip to Tundra Lodge or something set up for Coltyn as he has had his summer ripped out of his hands. Due to his fractures, the heat, and the inability to go into water with his casts and his incisions, we have had to spend most of our summer indoors where he hates it the most. I could go on and on as to why I have pulled the trigger on this GoFundMe. I ask you for any help you can provide if you would like to do so, and if you would not like to, please do not judge.

Coltyn's story: in summary

Coltyn was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta type one (OI) at 6 months old after fracturing his left femur. After getting out of his femur harness, he cracked his left tibia due to stiffness. Following this fracture, he fractured his left humerus the week of his 1st birthday. Following that was a spiral fracture to his left tibia and fibula by falling over while standing next to the couch right before Christmas. The following February 2024, he fractured his left femur again, putting him in a spica cast for 6 weeks. In May 2024, he fractured his skull playing at the park. In June 2024, he fractured his left ulna after falling while standing. After that fracture, he finally had a SIX-MONTH break from fractures, which was such a blessing! However, that blessing was taken away on New Year’s Eve, December 2024, when Coltyn fractured his left tibia and fibula while playing with his cousins and was walking too fast and tripped and fell. Coltyn had his cast off for just two weeks before fracturing that same bone (left tibia/fibula) while I was in labor with his brother Bowdie. The day Coltyn got that cast off, he re-fractured the leg running out of the bathroom after his first bath after getting the cast off, so in April 2025, he was back into a cast. Then, on June 8th, 2025, he had his first right ulna fracture, which led to a nightmare fast. On Father’s Day, he fell on his casted arm when he ran to ask daddy how he liked the waffles he made him, fracturing his humerus and displacing his previous ulna fracture, causing the need for his first surgery. A week following his surgery, he fell on a dog bed and broke his foot.

A couple of weeks following, he fell while walking and fell on his surgically casted arm, causing the humerus fracture to displace as well, needing a rod placed in surgery a little over two weeks ago. Now today, 7-28-25, he is getting his third surgery to shorten the rod that was placed two weeks ago as it is now too long, causing the rod to try and poke through the skin. This medical history is just his fracture history alone, making a total of 18 fractures in the last 2 years (includes fractures and refractures/displaced fractures).
