Collectivize-A-Lot

Hey y'all! This fundraiser is to try and raise $4000 in 2 weeks to buy a lot in the Upper 9th ward, St. Claude area of New Orleans and collectivize it. Currently 2 folk live there, Burger: black struggling artist and Hummus: illegal alien queer POC whom have tended it for over 5 years and are turning it into an LLC so that it can serve as a community space to collective and community members without threat of eviction and development in perpetuity. The lot is currently under threat of being sold out from under them and developed.

The space has historically hosted events and wayward travelers, and many folk have been supported by it in some way, shape or form. Burger and Hummus have no desire to own land and would like it to continue to flourish into a collective space for mutual aid and/or disaster response projects and/or collective housing. A kind of meeting place to store materials and from which to help the wider community in times of need. If every friend who at one point sang a song, ate a meal, or sat by the fire at the lot could send $20-50, it would be enough to keep this place going.

The plan is for ownership and decision making of The Lot to function collectively and for the title to be turned over into the hands of an LLC with it's fate decided by collective members. Making it so it cannot be sold out from under anyone by any individual and will be operated for the benefit of community and collective members. The hope is for new members to join who wish to share in this collective community space and vision. Any and all of you are invited, irrespective of donations, to put your name on the LLC and help to co-create possibilities. Our goal is to keep this place out of the hands of gentrifiers who may wish to flip it or house another illegal air-bnb on the block. So, help us save this lots tiny homes, workshop and gathering space from development, we don't need another rental none of us can afford.

UPDATES! We have created the LLC and 6 of us are currently part of it and more people are able to be added!

We have paid the down payment of $1400 and donations and us pitching outside of gofundme have made us able to reduce the goal to $4000 so we are halfway there!
