Third Root Community Health Center introduces the Collective Care Fund for free and low-cost services for Black and Indigenous Community members
From December 1 - 31 we aim to raise $150,000 to upgrade our physical and virtual space, offer free Community Care Clinics, and launch and sustain the Collective Care Fund for the coming year. 70% of all donations will go directly to recipients of the Collective Care Fund, while 30% will upgrade our space & offset our losses due to COVID-19.
In a year beset by COVID-19 and overlapping political and economic crises, Third Root Community Health Center has remained responsive to the health needs of our community. Within the first month of the pandemic, practitioners and yoga teachers quickly pivoted to offer virtual services in order to maintain continuity of care. Like many small businesses shuttered during the pandemic, Third Root has lost significant revenue and is turning to our broader community for support.
Later this summer, in response to the global uprising for Black Lives Matter, Third Root fundraised to provide free services for Black community members to support in wellness and healing, collectively raising over $20,000 - more than double our initial goal. Those funds allowed over 300 Black community members free access to programming such as Weekly Yoga, Meditation & Somatics and workshops like: Brown Sugar Yoga for Folks of Color ,Yoga for Abundant Bodies, Queer + Trans Yoga, QTIPOC Meditation, Plant Magic, Creativity for Liberation, Reclaiming Alignment an Ayurvedic Retreat with B. Anderson, Healing at Our Fingertips: Tapping & Acupressure for Wholeness with Geleni Fontaine and Intro to NADA Protocol Acu with Julia Bennett. If you were a supporter of our summer fundraiser, thank you so much for your generosity!
In spite of these achievements, Third Root has lost significant revenue during the pandemic. We are now turning to our broader community for financial support.
Third Root recently reopened for in-person private massage and acupuncture. As the pandemic continues and number of cases increase, we are in dire need of technology and space improvements to increase our in-person capacity and improve our virtual programming. Improvements to our physical space will allow us to continue to provide safe and accessible health services to all in our community.
Funds raised will also support the launch of Third Root’s new Collective Care Fund, providing needed wellness services to our community members who are most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing systemic anti-blackness, racism, and transphobia. This application-based fund provides Black and Indigenous community members, trans women & femmes of color and formerly incarcerated community members access to wellness services at low to no cost. The Collective Care Fund builds on our summer fundraising success to create a permanent structure for healing justice and accessibility at Third Root.
Additionally, Third Root is offering weekly, free, outdoor Community Care clinics on Tuesdays so that our local Flatbush/Ditmas Park neighbors can access care. This space provides health services including acupressure, reflexology, and sliding scale herbal support to offer our community care and relief during these challenging times.
We cannot offer these needed healing services in the community without your support!
