Colin Orlowski's Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Colin
Orlowski. I am a currently a Life Scout
with Troop 87 of the Boy Scouts of America in Bushkill, PA.
When I was a bear cub starting my adventure with scouting I never dreamed about becoming an Eagle Scout. Now that I am 16 years old, this has been my goal for the past several years since the time I crossed over from cub scouts to boy scouts.
All the achievements: Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and now Life, have led me to where I am today. I strive to achieve the highest rank- Eagle Scout- which only about 7% of all Boy Scouts are able to attain.
One of the requirements of the Eagle Scout Rank is to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to my community. My Eagle Scout Project is the construction of a circular masonry brick fire pit for the Church of Saint John of Marshalls Creek. Although my family and I moved to Allentown last year, I would still like to complete my Eagle Scout Project for my old parish which has been part of my life for the last 15 years. The idea of building a fire pit came from my pastor. Father Walsh envisioned all the benefits of having a fire pit on the church property such as; it would help build a sense of community and the fire pit would be a place to gather for various occasions. He could plan youth group events like campfire nights or a summer soirée- outdoor adult gathering. There is nothing better than having S'mores, telling stories, and having fun around a fire. Ultimately, this is a great project for the church.
After looking at the cost estimate, I will need to raise about $950. This includes the cost of materials, tools, and supplies. There is no cost for labor because I will have my troop and volunteers helping on the project. To raise the funds for this project, I created an opportunity for people to sponsor a brick from my fire pit. There are two types of bricks: face bricks and refractory bricks (which are specially built to withstand extreme heat from fires).
To sponsor a brick you can choose between face bricks for $10 or firebricks for $20. You can sponsor as many bricks as you like. At the completion of the project, the names of all the sponsors will be recognized by having their names placed in the parish bulletin as a special insert.
All the donations to my project are tax-deductible. Any funds that I raise which exceed the amount needed for the project will be donated to the Church of Saint John.
I greatly appreciate your help and generosity.
Thank you,
Yours in Scouting,
Colin Orlowski
