Colin McPhedran Commemorative Trek
Donation protected
We are four Aussie trekkers who need your help to complete this world first trek through northern Myanmar.
The Colin McPhedran Commemorative Trek is simply our attempt to acknowledge and recreate the desperate and forgotten journey as undertaken by 11 year old Colin and his family along side 40,000 other WWII refugees of which half perished, including Colin's mother, brother and sister.
In addition to this, we will be raising awareness for maternal and child health needs within Myanmar where one in 33 women will die of preventable complications during childbirth.
Why $60,000 for the Trekkers? Since Colin and his family undertook their original exodus in 1942, Kachin state Myanmar has been locked down by over 60 years of civil war. This has required any foreigners to obtain difficult and expensive security permits and accredited guides to traverse the area which Colin walked. We are the first to have recieved permission to do this.
We need your help to enable us to undertake this 500km historic trip (and returned unscathed!)
Your money will assist us in:
-Equipping trekkers with appropriate safety gear
-Dehydrated food and water filtration costs
-Paying for our permits and access approvals
-Airfares and in-country transportation costs
-Producing a feature length documentary of the story of the trek, the history of Kachin state and the work of Burnet Institute
Meet the trekkers (from left to right):
Kenton Reeder, Jacob Garrett, Kevin Commins and Charles Caddy. We are pleased to announce that Bupa Global are providing us with Insurance and Bupa Australia have come on board as sponsors by way of funding these costs. In addition to this, Mont Adventure Equipment are our major equipment sponsor and will be supplying us with their quality camping gear. Various print, digital and television media outlets are becoming interested in our story which you can follow easily by pressing LIKE on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/colinmcphedrantrek/
For more information about the Trek, please go to http://www.thecolinmcphedrantrek.com.au
All donations will be gratefully recieved and we thank you so much for your practical support in ensuring we can fulfill our promises to Colin's family (who have given us their total support).
With grateful thanks,
Kev, Charles, Kenton and Jacob
