Hi, my name is Norah Serra, and I am a member of BSA Troop 209 in Newton, MA. I am currently pursuing the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting. Eagle Scouts are best known for leading a public service project that benefits their community.
For my project, I am working with the nonprofit Friends of Cold Spring Park to install a new fence and gates around the community pollinator garden. This garden was originally built through DoBi Wollaber's Eagle Project in 2022 and has become an important space for supporting local pollinators and educating visitors. However, the current fence is unstable, does not effectively keep animals out, and detracts from the garden’s appearance.
My project will replace the existing fence with a sturdy, well-structured one that fully protects the garden while also creating a more attractive and welcoming entrance to the park. The new gates will improve accessibility, encouraging more community members to enjoy and learn from the garden. Work will include trenching, digging post holes, setting posts, and constructing the fence and gates.
Most of the work will be completed by volunteers that I am recruiting, with support from the City of Newton as needed.
All funds raised through this campaign will be used to purchase project materials, including posts, gates, fencing, and hardware. Any donations received above the cost of this project will be gifted to the Friends of Cold Spring Park for future park improvements.
Thank you so much for supporting my Eagle Project at Cold Spring Park. I hope this project will help protect and beautify the pollinator garden while making it more accessible to the entire community.
