Hello! We are SOS Chai, a small organisation aiding and supporting refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced people in Caen, France.
We are currently fundraising so that we can continue to provide this necessary support throughout the winter months, an extremely difficult season for the refugees we work with. Our main focus is supplying 100 refugees and asylum seekers with Cold Kits, Boots, warm coats, as well as to fund the general upkeep of SOS Chai.
Cold Kits are backpacks containing; A warm & waterproof coat, warm shoes, socks, a hat, thermal gloves, a fleece, and other essentials such as tissues and hand sanitiser.
These items can make a huge difference to someone living outside or in squats, at this time of year, and we need your help in supplying them to those in urgent need - we greatly appreciated anything you are able to contribute!
Please read on to hear more about SOS's work this time of year and why it is so important that we continue our support from Chrissie Kelly, a founder of SOS Chai -
"The temperatures are dropping now each week and autumn is closing in, and this is my favourite season; but now each year, I’m so conscious of my new friends around me for whom the lower temperatures hold many real fears. How will I stay healthy? How do I replace my leaking shoes so my feet don’t freeze, & how do I fight off new viruses and bugs and not succumb to the dreaded coronavirus? These and others are very real fears for our refugee friends, many of whom will be living outside all winter. Many also have come from very warm climates and the winter freezes are totally new snd scary experiences for them.
There are nights when I go to bed so aware of the warmth and comfort I enjoy, and even look forward to, the cozy winter evenings that many of have the luxury to enjoy, but too many endure rather than enjoy the night hours and are having to learn survival methods that will be so extremely tough, even painful & full of dangers.
So this is the moment for us at SOS Chai to get organised and raise the funds needed to supply cold kits!
A warm, waterproof coat, some warm, dry shoes, socks, a hat and thermal gloves and if possible maybe even a sweatshirt.
I never grow tired of seeing the joy on their faces when they receive these needed items. I wish I could capture it to show you the difference you can make by helping us provide.
They don’t prevent the challenging weeks that lie ahead but they do say, we care and they can make a significant difference to whether or not they can stay healthy and maybe also provide some comfort though some very tough months. So please help us provide for the 100+ boys that we are in contact with, and know that every euro raised or donated makes a real difference to someone."
