2020 BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY Fundraising

City of Hope Safe Haven and it's executive board are conducting a school supply drive for the Farrington Community in Dekalb County  the transitional living residents in hotels .  We are collecting donations to support this endeavor. The $ 1,987. was last years donation which we were truly grateful to all those who gave, this  is a new campaign for 2019 with the same purpose in mind but we want to serve more kids.  Because more children will be going to school virtually because of the pandemic the need for school supplies is greater than the bookbag. The donations will assist us with purchasing   of school supplies for middle and high school students.  Each child will approximately cost $10 dollars.  Any donation that is given can be used as a tax write off due to our 501c3 status.  Donations will be greatly appreciated to help the families in need.

The items listed below will be purchased with the donations we collect:
-Paper:  construction paper, spiral notebooks, composition books, index cards
-Pencils & Pens: blue or black pens, #2 pencils, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener, pencil case, colored markers, crayons, highlighters
-General Supplies: paper clips, 3-ring 2" binders, pocket folders, report covers
-Classroom staples: stapler, staples, rulers, protractors, glue sticks, scissors, tape, calculator
-Book bags
-Things you can never have too much of:  tissues, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, mask 

MY STORY

Hi , my name is Alecia Lynn Washington and I started the City of Hope Safe Haven February 2006 . The vision was birthed out of my personal experiences.  From being bullied to raped at 8 years old, I've made many personality adjustments just to avoid pain.  Rejection and low self- esteem seem to haunt me which bad decisions followed.  From teen pregnancy, drugs, homelessness, suicide etc.  Because of all the horrific experiences God showed me that my experiences would be the voice or source of help to others who have similar issues but have no one to turn to .   I bought a 7 bedroom house for this purpose, so I can give back.   I live in a single family subdivision and I'm only able to cater to a limited amount of people in the house.  Within the last 10 years I've been able to cater to over 60 men, women and children.  They have had issues of homelessness, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, emancipated youth,  and H.I.V etc...   The City of Hope Safe Haven donations will help me to seek out a facility especially here in the areas outside of Atlanta so they will not have to go to the city for help.  I want to open and launch this during the midyear of 2020.  I'm qualified as a 501c (3) applicant.  I will be working directly with moving forward and progressing this vision.  The City of Hope Safe Haven is based on the foundation of love and offering a secure place in which people are loved and respected.   We are committed to assisting individuals and families in resettlement and independence through emergency housing.  We provide them emotional support and help them realize their potential and dreams through training, referrals and resources.

Our dream center inspired residential discipleship program is where lives change.   We want to provide this service through a one year program where hope and help for those struggling with substance abuse, depression, anger control, past physical and sexual abuse and other life controlling issues.  Being able to implement this program we can help at least 100 or more individuals who are struggling in these areas.
