As of April 9th, 2020, The Dominican Republic has 2,349 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 118 confirmed deaths.
The coronavirus is having a severe economic impact on individuals in the Dominican Republic, small businesses, and the thousands of families dependant on the tourist and hospitality sectors to live day to day.
We have organized this fund raising effort to feed 20 families in the Cofresi and Costambar areas just west of Puerto Plata. We have businesses and people on the ground to shop and assemble weekly food packages which will feed a family of 4 for a week. Our goal is to raise enough money to feed 20 families for the next three months. The Dominican people rely on daily pay to put food on the table and with the tourism industry shut down they have nothing.
Please help us help others, specifically in the Cofresi and Costambar area of the Dominican Republic. Where not only our family members and friends are in isolation, but thousands of others that are in desperate need of food, supplies and medical treatment, now more than ever.
I am reaching out to my Facebook Canadian and American friends for help with this, $5 / $10 / $20 Any amount will help. Your generous gift is and will be appreciated by the many lives it will affect positively in such uncertain and fearful times.
Our team on the ground in Cofresi is headed up by Chris Coates President of Junta de vecinos de playa cofresi. Chris and his team will be preparing weekly food packages to deliver to our 20 families.
