Hi, I’m Ali and I’m raising funds and awareness for the devastating effects of coastal erosion.
My parents are soon to be homeless as the effects of ‘Beast From The East’ and other storms have taken their toll.
My parents moved to Hemsby in 2011. They moved thinking that this would be their peaceful retirement and their home to live happily. Although near the coast, there was no way of knowing back then how much the storms and coastal erosion would effect their property. Back then there was vast beach, sand dunes, marrams and other properties all before my parent’s house.
Now, the sea is close enough that my parents house will need to be demolished. That’s it. Their livelihood and all their savings/life/everything will be lost, and there’s no help.
The council will not help, my parents will have to go on a housing list for which there is no guarantee and no knowing when they will be sorted.
They have been told to start packing as a matter of urgency.
Between my sister and I, we will do what we can but there’s only so much we can do.
We need help to try and find a property that our parents can afford - most likely a caravan or chalet.
We need help to be able to pay for the demolition of their property, or even storage of belongings.
If they do not sign a form by the council the the demolition could end up costing them £20k. It’s very overwhelming and complicated right now, hopefully we get some clearer answers and advice soon.
This is a long shot so if you made it this far then I appreciate your time.
Any help is greatly received.
I have already seen so many comments from people saying that this is nature; yes you are correct, but this is also life.
