As some of you may know, our friend Kate and her family have faced several ongoing health challenges over the past 12 months.

Kate has been dealing with a condition known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in her right arm since sustaining a work-related injury 12 months ago. The cause of CRPS is not well understood and the effects are often severe and long-term. Even with treatment, the condition can recur for many months or years.

Following this, she has recently been diagnosed with optic neuritis, a condition that causes pain and vision loss as a result of an inflamed optic nerve. The diagnosis and treatment schedule for this has caused a cascade of complications and side effects. These are still undergoing investigation to determine their significance.

Kate’s family have faced mounting costs in relation to her medical treatment and associated out of pocket expenses, the effects of which are now compounded by her inability to work.

All the family’s energy has been placed into work and health, with little leftover for moments of joy and family time spent together.
