Club Tropicana Fund Ice Creams for Kids

Donate £1 for a local family. £1 is one icecream. 

When I re-opened as Frosty’s Palace (my ice cream bar cafe in Northfield, Birmingham), I was painfully aware my business is in the area of Birmingham where free school meal provision is the highest in the UK. Northfield is a proud, working class suburb of Birmingham, families here work hard, but this doesn't always stretch to treats or days out. 

I am also aware treating the children to Ice cream is above the means of lots of the families in the area. This is why I am launching Club Tropicana. When I was a kid we would go to Weston and my sister and I would nag and nag and nag to go to Tropicana on the sea front. We didn’t realise at the time my parents couldn’t afford the entry fee. I hear kids going past nagging and nagging and the same quiet excuses coming out we used to get.

I feel as an independent business you have to be responsible towards the community in which you trade, the people that say hello to you in the street on a daily basis and thank you for bringing something nice to the area. I don’t want those kids seeing my place as a big, bright NO, they shouldn’t be excluded from the party.

All funds will be used to provide the opportunity for local families facing hardship to come to Frosty's Palace for an icecream.  Your £1 donation will give one child an ice cream when they visit. 

I will be printing fun vouchers that I will make sure get to the families who need them. Each £1 donation is 1 voucher. I will be fielding vouchers to local food banks, community centres and schools to make sure the fund is divided fairly amongst families with the most need.  The vouchers have no monetary value, it can be used for an item of of choice (prices per item vary between £1.80 - £5) 

I have set up a separate account for this fund to keep it entirely separate from my business takings, for absolute transparency some of the fund will be used to print vouchers and cover some of the admin costs and go towards the purchase of raw ingredients to provide the ice creams. 

Should the Club Tropicana fund exceed £5000 I will be registering as a charity where all statements and spends will be available to see for all online as part of an annual report.
